In 2005\, rooted\nin c ommunity and tradition\, a group of students learning Son Jarocho\nm usic became known as \"Los Cafeteros\,\" named after the Eastside Cafe\ ncommunity center in East Los Angeles that they helped found. They soon\nc hanged their name to Las Cafeteras to honor the feminine spirit of the\ngr oup. Over the years\, Las Cafeteras has developed a genre-bending sound\n& amp\; electric live performance with the purpose of sharing the hidden\nst ories of migrant life in Los Angeles. Las Cafeteras were inspired not\nonl y by Mexican music\, but from rock\, reggae\, hip-hop and Motown.\nThro ugh music\, Las Cafeteras is trying to help build \"a world where many\ nworlds fit.\" While in the Wood River Valley\, Las Cafeteras will spend f our\ndays visiting over 2000 students with musical performances\, sharing their\nmusic and their message of inclusivity.

Las Cafeteras will\nbe performing in and working with local schools as a part of The Ce nter’s\nongoing commitment to Artist Residencies. Artist Residencies are supported\nby Gayle Marie and in part\, with funds for International Guit ar Night and\nLas Cafeteras provided by the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF)\, the\nIdaho Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment f or the Arts.

The film is a meditation on loss an d\nlove that is light and heavy\, straightforward and experimental.\nAnder son’s narration touches on subjects such as family memories\,\nsurveilla nce\, how dogs see color and Tibetan Buddhist teachings.
