In an evening\npresent ation\, ceramic artist Gerald Arrington will speak about his Wood\nRiver V alley inspiration and influence as well as his process and working\ntechni ques.
Arrington received the 2016 Sun Valley Center Arts and\nCraft s Festival Best of Ceramics Winner award. His lecture is in\nconjunction w ith the two-day workshop on ceramics that we will be teaching\nin collabor ation with Boulder Mountain Clayworks\, Aug 9 &\; 10\,\n10am-4pm.
< p>Gerald Arrington Stoneware Ceramics is based in northern\nCalifornia’s beautiful Sonoma County. Gerald spent more than 25 years in\nIdaho. While there\, he attended Idaho State University as a Fine Arts major\nand earn ed his B.A. While at ISU\, he continued his study of geology. His\nlove of clay and his fascination with rocks eventually merged into one\npassion\, leading him to develop his unique art forms.Gerald employs\nthe v ariety of techniques he has developed over nearly 16 years to create\nhis truly one-of-a-kind stoneware ceramics. It’s a process that begins by\nt hrowing a closed form on the wheel. While the piece is still on the wheel\ ,\ncolored slips are added to create the stratification. After a period of \ndrying\, he begins the altering process by paddling the form until it ta kes\non the shape and characteristics of a river stone.
