Join us for a\nwor kshop to learn hand-sewing techniques for mending clothes in a\ndecorative way. Participants will learn how to make visible repairs to\ndenim and kn its\, including patches\, reverse patches\, and darning\, as well\nas crea te a mending kit from patches that they sew during the class.\nVisible men ding is a sustainable\, thoughtful way to extend the life of your\nbeloved clothing\, by supporting a more mindful consumption of clothing\nthrough repairing more and buying less.
In addition to hands-on\nvisible me nding instruction\, participants will be guided through a\ndiscussion abou t the history of the human relationship with clothing\, the\ntextile indus try and ways we can all try to reduce our reliance on new\nconsumption to reduce waste. Visible mending is one piece of this\npuzzle.

Participants will learn how to make visible repairs to\ndenim and knits\, including patches\, reverse patches\, and darning\, as well\nas create a mending kit from patches that they sew during the cl ass.\nVisible mending is a sustainable\, thoughtful way to extend the life of your\nbeloved clothing\, by supporting a more mindful consumption of c lothing\nthrough repairing more and buying less.
In addition to han ds-on\nvisible mending instruction\, participants will be guided through a \ndiscussion about the history of the human relationship with clothing\, t he\ntextile industry and ways we can all try to reduce our reliance on new \nconsumption to reduce waste. Visible mending is one piece of this\npuzzl e.
All materials are provided including a workbook with mending\nin structions and information about the textile industry.

Jeanna Wigger has been working wi th and repurposing textiles for over 30\nyears\, beginning with an upcycle d denim bag made for a first grade\nenvironmental project. Her textile exp erience ranges from quilting\,\nknitting\, and garment sewing\, to embroid ery and needle felting. In 2017\,\nshe started Sage Woolens\, a creative b usiness with a mission of making\nuseful products\, including bags and hom e decor from discarded wool\ntextiles\, as well as mending vintage wool cl othing. She loves combining her\npassions for teaching\, history\, and sew ing in hands-on workshops and\neducational events to empower others to mak e sustainable\, creative changes\nin their own lives.
