This four-hour\nworksh op will address basic metalworking techniques such as sawing\, filing\,\ns anding\, forming\, and soldering sterling silver rings. We’ll start with \ntool and studio introduction\, then design and fabricate rings from shee t\nand wire.
All skill levels welcome. Appropriate for ages 16 and\nup.
Trained as a metalsmith\, Rachel Reichert's work blur s the\nline between art\, preservation\, and community engagement. Having studied at\nthe Oregon College of Art &\; Craft\, Boise State Universit y\, and Penland\nSchool of Crafts\, her work is influenced by cultural her itage\, and the\nidentity of place. Reichert currently works as a studio a rtist\, Cultural\nSites Manager for the City of Boise's Department of Arts &\; History\, and\nis Co-Founder of The Atlanta School\, a small art a nd architecture school in\nAtlanta\, Idaho.
This winter The Center launches its\nCrafts Series One Night Workshops th at will take place\nannually at The Center\, Hailey. Each series will be t hree nights\, offering\nthree different opportunities to work directly wit h instructors in a\nhands-on\, skill-based environment. This year\, Company of Fools and\nthe Sun Valley Center for the Arts have invited The Second City to perform\ntheir “Look Both Ways Before Talking” show. After st udying voice\nand piano at Virginia Commonwealth University and musical di recting dozens\nof musicals at local theatres\, R.L. moved to the Washingt on\, D.C. suburbs\nwhere spent time serving as musical director for a new American opera\,\nsinging the title role in Michael Nyman’s The Man Who Mistook His Wife\nfor a Hat\, teaching and directing at The Kennedy Center for the Performing\nArts\, The Studio Theatre\, and Woolly Mammoth Theatr e Company. Eventually\,\nR.L. left the area to tour the country as musical director and conductor\nfor a number of national tours of Broadway musica ls. A quick return to\nRichmond as the associate producing artistic direct or for TheatreVirginia\,\nand R.L. was back on the road first as conductor \, then company manager and\nfinally general manager for one of the nation ’s leading producers of\nnational tours.
