Craft Series One\n Night Workshop: Basics of Silver Metal Clay: The New Metalwork Method with \nLisa Horton <\;br>\;<\;br>\;
What’s the new\, new thing
in the\njewelry making world? Hint: there’s low tool cost\; it’s nont
oxic and\nsafe enough to do at your kitchen table\; and the material is ve
rsatile and\nresponsive. It’s Silver Metal Clay! The name comes from the
method\, which\nis akin to hand-building ceramic clay\, but the material
itself contains\nonly finely powdered metal particles in a water-holding b
ase. “Metal\nclay” paradoxically produces pieces that are solid metal.
\n<\;br>\;<\;br>\;
Dip your toe into the dazzling worl
d of the\nmyriad metal clays with this beginner class where we will use PM
C+. In just\nthree hours\, we’ll shape and texture a pendant and earring
dangles\, fire\nthe pieces with a kitchen torch\, then polish and add pat
ina. You’ll leave\nwith ready to wear silver jewelry and your brain awas
h with new\npossibilities for jewelry construction.

Tearing at\nthe Se ams\, the vivacious and inventive record from Denver’s\nNathaniel R ateliff &\; The Night Sweats\, is grounded in old-school\nr&\;b and rock and roll\, but these songs are far too urgent for the retro\nor reviv alist tag. There are familiar elements of soul and garage rock\, but\nalso jazz and folk and even country: the crackling energy on opener “Shoe\nB oot\,” the cathartic sing-along of “Coolin’ Out\,” the melancholy\ nfolk of the closing title track.
Like his heroes\, Rateliff has\na lways been an omnivorous listener and player. Growing up in Herman\,\nMiss ouri\, he started his music career playing in his family’s band at\nchur ch\, and music became an obsession for him and his friends. In 1998\nRatel iff and future Night Sweats bassist Joseph Pope III moved to Denver\,\nCol orado\, where their first band\, Born in the Flood\, attracted some\nmajor -label interest. But the pair had moved on by then\, gravitating first\nto a folksier sound and later to hard-hitting r&\;b.
Rateliff had\ nloved soul music since he was a teenager in Missouri\, and a set of demos he\nrecorded in the early 2010s gradually grew into Nathaniel Rateliff &a mp\;\nThe Night Sweats. Released in 2015 on the relaunched Stax Records\, the\nalbum became a massive hit and pushed them out on the road for two lo ng\nyears. The band blasted their way through hundreds of shows in North\n America\, England\, Ireland\, and Australia\, in addition to playing Coach ella\,\nFarm Aid\, Newport Folk Festival\, and the Monterey Pop Festival's 50th\nAnniversary.
In May 2017 the band disappeared to the small t own of\nRodeo\, New Mexico\, to write songs for their follow-up. Then they recorded\nin the Oregon studio of Richard Swift\, who produced their debu t. T earing at\nthe Seams\, the vivacious and inventive record from Denver ’s\nNathaniel Rateliff &\; The Night Sweats\, is grounded in old-scho ol\nr&\;b and rock and roll\, but these songs are far too urgent for th e retro\nor revivalist tag. There are familiar elements of soul and garage rock\, but\nalso jazz and folk and even country: the crackling energy on opener “Shoe\nBoot\,” the cathartic sing-along of “Coolin’ Out\, ” the melancholy\nfolk of the closing title track.
Like his heroe s\, Rateliff has\nalways been an omnivorous listener and player. Growing u p in Herman\,\nMissouri\, he started his music career playing in his famil y’s band at\nchurch\, and music became an obsession for him and his frie nds. In 1998\nRateliff and future Night Sweats bassist Joseph Pope III mov ed to Denver\,\nColorado\, where their first band\, Born in the Flood\, at tracted some\nmajor-label interest. But the pair had moved on by then\, gr avitating first\nto a folksier sound and later to hard-hitting r&\;b.
Rateliff had\nloved soul music since he was a teenager in Missouri\, and a set of demos he\nrecorded in the early 2010s gradually grew into Na thaniel Rateliff &\;\nThe Night Sweats. Released in 2015 on the relaunc hed Stax Records\, the\nalbum became a massive hit and pushed them out on the road for two long\nyears. The band blasted their way through hundreds of shows in North\nAmerica\, England\, Ireland\, and Australia\, in additi on to playing Coachella\,\nFarm Aid\, Newport Folk Festival\, and the Mont erey Pop Festival's 50th\nAnniversary.
