LOVE\, GILDA opens a unique window into the\nhonest a nd whimsical world of beloved comedian and performer Gilda Radner\,\nwhose greatest role was sharing her story. Working with the Radner estate\,\ndi rector Lisa D’Apolito unearthed a collection of diaries and personal\nau dio and videotapes documenting her childhood\, her comedy career\, her\nre lationships and ultimately\, her struggles with cancer. These\nnever-befor e-seen-or-heard footage and journal entries form the narrative\nspine of t he documentary\, allowing Gilda to tell her own story – through\nlaughte r and sometimes tears.
In the many ways that people come\ntogether to play\, improv and comedy are a powerful tool for creating a\nshared exp erience of fun. Gilda Radner was a comedian whose sense of\nsilliness and willingness to throw herself into characters gave audiences a\nchance to l et themselves go and connect to others. While play and comedy\ncan bring l ightness\, it also can serve as a tool to unburden ourselves and\nto work through difficult circumstances. Do we sometimes hide behind\nlaughter? Is that okay?
