What started in\n2 006 as a one-off with a group of nine cellists onstage at Portland’s\nDo ug Fir Lounge has evolved into a nationally recognized performing\,\nrecor ding and educational group with a revolving cast of cellists. Portland\nCe llo Project (PCP) has developed a three-part philosophy that has mostly\nr emained unchanged over the years: Bring the cello places you wouldn't\nnor mally see it\; perform music on the cello you wouldn't normally associate\ nwith the instrument alongside music from the Western Classical Tradition\ ;\nand build bridges between different musical communities through educati on\,\ncommunity outreach\, and collaboration with myriad artists.

A nd now\nPCP turns the evening purple\, blending their deep textures with t he unique\nharmonic landscape and the artistic power of Prince. The additi on of\nmusicians who have worked with Prince\, such as Saeeda Wright and T yrone\nHendrix\, guarantees a lively evening of diversely curated music th at\ninfluenced—or was influenced by—The Purple One.

W hat started in\n2006 as a one-off with a group of nine cellists onstage at Portland’s\nDoug Fir Lounge has evolved into a nationally recognized pe rforming\,\nrecording and educational group with a revolving cast of celli sts. Portland\nCello Project (PCP) has developed a three-part philosophy t hat has mostly\nremained unchanged over the years: Bring the cello places you wouldn't\nnormally see it\; perform music on the cello you wouldn't no rmally associate\nwith the instrument alongside music from the Western Cla ssical Tradition\;\nand build bridges between different musical communitie s through education\,\ncommunity outreach\, and collaboration with myriad artists.

And now\nPCP turns the evening purple\, blending their dee p textures with the unique\nharmonic landscape and the artistic power of P rince. The addition of\nmusicians who have worked with Prince\, such as Sa eeda Wright and Tyrone\nHendrix\, guarantees a lively evening of diversely curated music that\ninfluenced—or was influenced by—The Purple One.

About the Instructor

Dirce Flores\nis a professional dancer from Mexico. In 1995\, at the age of 10\, she was\ncast in a local TV show for over a year. After her after time on\ntelevision\, she returned to the study of folkloric and other for ms of\ndance. That extended curriculum gave her the opportunity to perform in the\nbest theaters in Oaxaca. Dirce began teaching Mexican folk dance classes at\nage 17\, became a ballet teacher for beginners at the age of 1 8\, and was\npart of a ballet company until she was 20. Dirce put her danc e career on\npause when she became a mom. Now she looks forward to teachin g again and\nsharing her dance with the community in the Wood River Valley where she has\nlived since 2008.
