In this class\, we \nwill learn the basic principles of self-portraiture with a focus on the\ nidea of a self-portrait as a “map of our interior world.” Students wi ll\nlearn how to use introspection and artistic techniques to express\nthe mselves while having fun and letting go of the fear of making mistakes.\nO ver the course of the two-day workshop\, students will use different\nmate rials and exercises to help understand the possibilities of emotional\nexp ression through art.

Artist Luz\nCamarena Quiroz ’s paintings and sculptures reflect what she sees and how\nshe responds to everyday interactions with nature and the human spirit.
\nBorn in Mexico City\, Luz Camarena Quiroz began studying one-on-one with\nvarious artists from different parts of Mexico in the 1990s. She received\nformal training at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland\, OR\,\nand at Bellas Artes and Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende\,\nGuanajua to. She holds an MFA in Fine Arts from Boise State University.

I n this class\, we\nwill learn the basic principles of self-portraiture wit h a focus on the\nidea of a self-portrait as a “map of our interior worl d.” Students will\nlearn how to use introspection and artistic technique s to express\nthemselves while having fun and letting go of the fear of ma king mistakes.\nOver the course of the two-day workshop\, students will us e different\nmaterials and exercises to help understand the possibilities of emotional\nexpression through art.

\nBorn in Mexico City\, Luz Camarena Quiroz began studying one-on- one with\nvarious artists from different parts of Mexico in the 1990s. She received\nformal training at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Port land\, OR\,\nand at Bellas Artes and Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Al lende\,\nGuanajuato. She holds an MFA in Fine Arts from Boise State Univer sity.
\nEn esta clase aprenderemos los principios básicos de cómo elaborar un\nautorretrato\, entendiendo que un autorretrato es en realidad un “m apa de\nnuestro mundo interior”. Combinaremos el uso de distintas técni cas y\nmateriales para crear y expresarnos a través del arte. Este taller está\ndiseñado para utilizar estas herramientas de forma que nos guíen hacia la\nintrospección\, nos ayuden a perder el miedo a cometer errores y sobre todo\na divertirnos.

Coinciding with renewed an d\nre-energized dialogue about the possibility of breaching dams throughou t\nthe Columbia River Basin\, this BIG IDEA project invites our community into\na conversation about the impact of dams on Idaho and the American We st. For\nmore than a century\, dams have shaped Idaho’s landscapes\, eco systems and\neconomies (recreation\, tourism\, fishing\, agriculture\, ene rgy). At this\nhistoric moment\, the projects considers the history of dam ming in the\nPacific Northwest\, the effects of dams on the region\, and a reimagined\nfuture for rivers and the life dependent on them in the Ameri can West.
\nSVMoA has commissioned artists Carolina Caycedo< /strong>\,\nEirik Johnson\, James Prosek and\nRachel Teannalach to create new work for the exhibi tion\,\nincluding large-scale and immersive installations.

Participants\n will use a wet-felting process\, which involves placing layers of colored\ nwool over a pattern and using hot soapy water and lots of hand rubbing to \ncreate the fish.

Betty Hayzle tt\nhas been working with fiber ever since she was a little girl. Today sh e\ncombines the making of hand-made felt (made from raw\, dyed wool) with\ nweaving and other materials to make her art. She loves to play with visua l\ncontrast and focuses on using rich colors and on combining different\nt echniques to create beautiful textured and vibrant colored 2-dimensional\n and 3-dimensional pieces.
