Circa 1971: From the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation

July 3 - October 17, 2026

Circa 1971 presents exceptional prints and limited editions from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation and offers an intimate portrait of American art at a pivotal cultural moment. Organized by Courtney Gilbert, Assistant Director of Curator and Jennifer Wells Green, Executive Direction in consultation with Sun Valley Center for the Arts (now SVMoA) founder Glenn Janss, this exhibition commemorates the museum's 55th anniversary by returning to the artistic landscape of its origins.

Featuring works created between 1970 and 1972, the exhibition captures the dynamic crosscurrents that defined the era—from the bold graphics of Pop Art to the perceptual experiments of Op Art, to the austere elegance of Minimalism, the exacting detail of Photorealism, and the intellectual rigor of Conceptual Art. This carefully selected presentation includes prints and sculptural editions by Anni Albers, Larry Bell, Vija Celmins, David Hockney, Jasper Johns, Alex Katz, Ellsworth Kelly, Sol LeWitt, Louise Nevelson, Claes Oldenburg, Ed Ruscha, Frank Stella, Wayne Thiebaud, and Andy Warhol, among others.

More than a retrospective glance, Circa 1971 invites visitors to immerse themselves in the aesthetic innovations and cultural conversations that animated the American art world at the moment of SVMoA's founding. The exhibition reveals how these artists, working through diverse practices and philosophies, collectively shaped the visual language of their time.
