CREATIVE JUMP-IN: Introduction to Astrophotography

with Nate Liles

Viernes, Octubre 1, 2021 - 5:30 PM

Astrophotography, also known as astronomical imaging, is photography or imaging of astronomical objects, celestial events, and areas of the night sky.

Learn how to create stunning images of the landscape under a night sky in the dramatic Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve! This class will introduce participants to pre-trip planning, camera settings and ideal equipment, composition, panorama creation, and post-processing techniques.

Participants will meet at the Sun Valley Museum of Art on Friday, Oct 1 at 5:30pm, arrange for carpooling as needed and depart for Little Redfish Lake by 5:45pm. Students will photograph the sunset (7:20pm), discuss camera settings and composition and shoot a bit of blue hour before astronomical twilight. Once a fully dark sky is in place, participants will practice creating night sky compositions before heading back to Ketchum around 10:30pm. If the sky is cloudy, alternate arrangements will be made to meet on this side of Galena Summit (location to be determined). On Saturday, students will discuss post-processing technique, including light noise reduction, panorama stitching, lens corrections, and image retouching. Age and ability: 18 yrs and older, beginners welcome!

This 2-session workshop takes place Fri, Oct 1, 5:30–11:30pm at Little Redfish Lake and Sat, Oct 2, 1–3pm at the Hailey Classroom, Hailey
