Fedarko’s first book, The Emerald Mile: The Epic Story of the Fastest Ride in History Through the Heart of the Grand Canyon, won the National Outdoor Book Award and the Reading the West Award, and was a New York Times bestseller. This story chronicles an adventure on the Colorado River’s flood waters to beat records for the fastest boat ever propelled through one of the West’s most famous desert wildernesses, the Grand Canyon. Kevin Fedarko has written for National Geographic, The New York Times, Esquire, Outside, and other publications. He studied political science at Columbia University and Russian history at Oxford before joining the staff at Time magazine, where he worked primarily on the foreign affairs desk. He lives and works in Flagstaff.
