Circa 1971: A Turning Point in Contemporary Art

A Conversation with Kimberly Davis, Director of L.A. Louver Gallery

Tuesday, August 11, 2026 - 5:30 PM

Join SVMoA and Kimberly Davis, Director of LA Louver Gallery, for a special conversation inspired by Circa 1971. Bringing her perspective as a leading gallerist and her work with artists like David Hockney, Kimberly will reflect on a pivotal moment when artists radically redefined the possibilities of art amid social and political upheaval—and how those innovations continue to shape the ways art is exhibited, supported, and collected today. This intimate program offers a unique opportunity to engage more deeply with the exhibition and the enduring legacy of one of the most transformative periods in contemporary art.

Kimberly Davis is a Director of L.A. Louver, a leading contemporary art gallery in Venice, California, known for its long-standing commitment to American and international artists, including David Hockney. Founded in 1975, L.A. Louver played a key role in positioning Los Angeles as a major center for contemporary art, working alongside museums and alternative spaces that helped shift influence away from New York’s traditional dominance.
