Join us for Teen Art Night, a free art-making program for teens, where we’ll build on the creative techniques from last month’s Alternative Photography Processes to explore the themes of mapping, movement, and identity in connection with the Uncharted: Artists as Wayfinders exhibition.
This month, we’ll be creating Layered Memory Maps that visualize personal or imagined journeys. Using materials like tracing paper, roadmaps, and your own drawings, you’ll craft a visual representation of a journey — whether it’s your daily commute, a migration story, or an adventurous path of your own imagination. You’ll have the opportunity to blend the tactile creativity of alternative photography with map-making techniques to reflect on the places, people, and experiences that shape your unique story.
If you’d like to personalize your map, feel free to send digital photos or other imagery that represents your journey! The images will be printed beforehand and included in your artwork. Please send photos to Dianne at [email protected] by Thursday, April 10th to make sure they’re ready for you.
No experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, this two-hour session is a fun and supportive space for teens ages 12-18 to experiment and express themselves.
SVMoA Staff and Teen Interns will be there to guide you through the creative process and help you connect your work to the exhibition’s themes of exploration and self-discovery.
Teen Night takes place from 5:30–7:30pm.
Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to map out your own journey through art!
